Chinese startup Deep Blue Aerospace has announced plans to sell its first two tickets for suborbital space tourism flights scheduled for 2027. The tickets, priced at 1.5 million yuan (approximately $211,000), will go on sale on Thursday, October 12, 2024, at 6 p.m. local time (1000 GMT), with more ticket sales planned for next month.
Deep Blue Aerospace is focusing on suborbital flights, where the rocket will reach outer space without entering orbit. The company aims to make space tourism more commercially viable by using reusable rockets, which will help reduce the high costs typically associated with launching spacecraft. The startup has also revealed plans to recover a carrier rocket from orbit by early 2025.
China’s space tourism industry is still in its early stages but is making strides. State-backed CAS Space has announced plans to offer space tourism flights by 2028, placing China in competition with U.S. companies like Blue Origin and SpaceX, which have already pioneered space tourism ventures.
This marks a significant milestone in China’s space tourism ambitions, with potential passengers and the global space community keenly watching its development.
