In a groundbreaking medical feat, Pakistani twins Mirha and Minal, who were born with their heads fused, have been successfully separated by a team of 60 doctors in Turkey after an intense 14-hour surgery. Conducted at Bilkent City Hospital in Ankara, the procedure was led by renowned pediatric neurosurgeon Dr. Owase Jeelani and Turkish doctors Dr. Harun Demirci and Dr. Hasan Murat Ergani.
The twins, aged 11 months, had faced numerous health challenges due to their conjoined condition. After a plea for help from the family reached Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the girls were flown to Turkey, where they underwent careful medical supervision before the final surgery in July. Post-surgery, the girls are reported to be recovering well, with newfound mobility and head control, as they approach their first birthday.
The emotional success of the procedure was a moment of triumph for both the medical team and the twins’ family, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to President Erdogan and the entire medical team for giving their children a new lease on life.
